PICKUP FROM KEDMA HOTEL
We’ll begin with a breathtaking viewpoint overlooking the vast desert landscapes, then drive deep into the nature reserve until we reach Ein Akev, a hidden spring featuring an impressive high waterfall and a deep natural pool.
Swimming is possible and is the responsibility of participants.
At the spring, we’ll enjoy a short break with tea, coffee, and sweet desert-style cookies.
This is one of the most refreshing journeys in Israel’s largest nature reserve. In the heart of the Negev Mountains flows the longest stream with the shortest name: Zin Stream (Nahal Zin). Along its course, hidden springs, natural pools, and desert oases attract wildlife and humans alike for thousands of years.
Where will we go?
We usually start with a panoramic view of the Zin Valley and explore why this specific area, within the vast Negev Desert, contains water sources, and how they were historically discovered.
Continuing the jeep tour to Ein Akev, we’ll see how a beautiful spring emerges from a massive rock ledge, creating a tall waterfall that flows into a deep pool of fresh, flowing water, suitable for swimming (at participants’ own responsibility).
We’ll also learn why vultures chose to nest near the spring along the cliffs of Nahal Akev, and why there are relatively few historical human settlements nearby, despite the availability of drinking water.
Since Ein Akev is mainly accessible by off-road vehicles, it remains less crowded than other desert springs.
Along the way, we’ll encounter the famous “Whistling Barrel,” observe vulture nests, identify common medicinal plants, track nocturnal animal footprints, and discover the wisdom of water management in the desert.
